Living with Jewellery: The quiet rituals we carry.
Jewellery doesn't only belong to moments of celebration. It isn't just for weddings, birthdays, or grand occasions. More often, it lives quietly with us in the everyday, in the simple rituals we repeat without even thinking.
For me, that's especially true with earrings. I never go out without them. The are my daily companions, and I have a few favourite pairs that I love to interchange depending on the day, whether it's a quick trip to the supermarket or a short appointment. Earrings frame the face and brighten even the most ordinary moments.
Though I work with both Silver and yellow Gold in my collections, Silver has always been the metal I choose for myself. It's the colour that works best with my skin tone, and it feels natural, an extension of who I am. Yellow Gold may be at the heart of much of my fine jewellery, but Silver is what I reach for when I dress myself.
When it is a special meeting or an outing, I'll reach for my favourite ring, or sometimes a few statement rings that I interchange depending on my mood. I have always thought people tend to be either 'ring people' or 'necklace people'. I am very much a ring-and-earring person, and that feels true to me.
And then there is my chunky chain bracelet with charms. That one never comes off. It's more than just jewellery, it carries stories. I even designed one for each of my daughters, so in a way, we are always connected through that shared piece. It reminds me that jewellery can quietly bind us to the people we love, without saying a word.
Sometimes, it isn't even the form of the jewellery but the colour of a gemstone that connects us to memory. A shade of blue that recalls the sea from a childhood trip, or a soft pink that carries the warmth of someone dear to us. Wearing that piece becomes a way of carrying memory close, letting the presence of that person, or that moment, stay with us through the day.
That's what I love most about jewellery: how it doesn't just decorate us, but lives with us. It becomes a companion, a keeper of small rituals and quiet memories. Whether it's the familiarity of earrings slipped on each morning, the comfort of a ring that reflects our mood, or the constancy of a bracelet we never take off; these pieces ground us in ways words sometimes cannot.
So perhaps this month is an invitation: to wear our jewellery not only for others to see, but for ourselves to feel. To let these small, shining companions walk with us - in colour, in weight, in memory.
